LITTER PREVENTION

Litter is a significant issue in the Surf Coast Shire.
The improper disposal of waste materials is not just an
aesthetic problem, but has major environmental, social and
economic impacts.

  • Litter on land or washed down waterways disturbs
    habitats for wildlife and vegetation.
  • Litter increases the risk of injury and spread of disease,
e.g., lit cigarette butts present a fire hazard.
  • A significant amount of money is spent each year to
    clean up litter.

Littering from vehicles can be reported to EPA VICTORIA.
