Planning & Building

The Planning and Building areas of Council relate to the management of land use and development and the construction of buildings on land.

In land use planning there are two main elements being Strategic Planning and Statutory Planning.

Strategic Planning looks to coordinates and manages Council's strategic plans and visions through the Greater Surf Coast Planning Scheme.

Statutory Planning relates to the assessment of various uses and development through the planning permit process. Statutory Planning also is responsible for the enforcement of the Planning Scheme and other consents such as planning certificates, demolition consents and liquor and licensing consents.

The Building Unit at Surf Coast are responsible for a regulatory role in terms of assessment of variations to Building Regulations, investigating illegal works and providing advice on building permit needs.
