Welcoming Our New CEO In particular, Mark has a strong financial background, and as the former Corporate Services general manager at Darebin City Council, he is well-placed to build on the solid foundation left by his predecessor, Peter Bollen. While Mark has excellent financial skills developed across more than 20 years working in the private and public sectors, he is also very much aware of balancing the prosperity that comes from strong growth with the natural environment and the needs of a diverse community. His previous roles at Darebin, with PricewaterhouseCoopers and as head of the Institute of Chartered Accountants’ Local Government Taskforce, prove Mark to be a dynamic leader who has a demonstrated capacity to respond to each new challenge with energy and with recognition of the community’s strong expectations. On behalf of my fellow councillors and council staff, I would like to welcome Mark to our Shire and I look forward to developing a positive and fruitful working relationship with him when he takes up the CEO position in August this year. Congratulating Torquay SES House fires, car accidents, flooding or violent storms are just some of the incidents SES crews attend. These incidents happen at random and are often challenging, confronting and life-threatening. But without fail, the SES is present to help people in need. Recently, Torquay SES crew member, Graeme Jackman, was awarded the Emergency Services Medal for his outstanding community contribution. The Torquay SES crew was also recognised for its community work, receiving the Group Bravery Citation. On behalf of Shire citizens and visitors, I congratulate Graeme and the Torquay SES team for the invaluable contribution they make to our community – they perform a vital and caring role, often under difficult circumstances. High Tide Invites Local Artists The 2008 festival theme is Our Space, Our Place! - celebrating and exploring seasonal change, our local history, flora and fauna, the sea and the people, families and characters who live, work and play within the Surf Coast. The theme also gives us an opportunity to better understand, respect and give thanks to the place, which many of us, call home. So, if you are artistic, I encourage you to create this year’s High Tide Festival logo and poster. We are looking for vibrant images that can be reproduced in color or black and white. The winning entry will become a key promotional resource featured on the publicity poster and throughout the campaign. Entry forms are available from Council offices or via our web site www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au For more information about the festival, which takes place in early December, please contact Julie Dyer on 5261 0645 or 0419 152 520 or email Julie - jdyer@surfcoast.vic.gov.au Entries close on Tuesday 22 July and must be delivered to the Surf Coast Shire, 25 Grossmans Road, Torquay, PO Box 350, 3228. The winner will be announced on Thursday 31 July. Do you use your Community Hall? Each community hall is managed by a committee of volunteers and on behalf of Council, I thank these committee members for the work they perform to promote and oversee the use of the halls. If you would like to know more about access or facilities at your community hall, please contact our Customer Services office on 5261 0600. Food for Families Have Your Say Take care,
