Surf Coast Tourism Board

The Surf Coast Tourism Board is a group of volunteer tourism industry representatives establised by the Surf Coast Shire to promote tourism throughout the region.

The Surf Coast Tourism Board operates as a Section 86 Committee of Council following an Instrument of Delegation and Memorandum of Understanding with the Surf Coast Shire Council.

During 2004, Council adopted the findings of a Review of Surf Coast Tourism. The review process concluded in February 2005 with the appointment of new Board members by Council.

The Board composition includes one Council representative, five Skills Based Members and a representative from each of the five Local Tourism & Trader Associations.

The Surf Coast Tourism Boards objectives are:

To implement a four year Tourism Strategic Plan and submit a review annually for Council consideration
To foster and promote sustainable tourism within Surf Coast Shire
To actively engage the broader community with the tourism function
To facilitate industry assistance programs that improve the quality of tourism product and customer service on a continuing basis.
To inform tourism operators within Surf Coast Shire on the activities of the Board and to provide opportunities for operator input to tourism policy on a regular basis.
To liaise with Local Tourism & Trader Associations and promote active 2-way communication between the Board and these bodies. This will include the distribution of Surf Coast Tourism Board Minutes to each LTA and the attendance of the Board Chairperson and Tourism Co-ordinator at a minimum of one LTA meeting for each association in each year.
To undertake periodic research into the tourism experience within the Shire.
To work in partnership with Geelong Otway Tourism, Tourism Victoria, Tourism Alliance Victoria and other peak tourism bodies to facilitate a co-ordinated approach to tourism promotion and marketing.
To oversee the delivery of tourism projects as identified in annual budgets.
Report annually on performance against agreed performance indicators between the Board and Council.
Report annually to the Geelong Otway Tourism Board

The Surf Coast Tourism board meets monthly on the third Thursday of each month. If you would like to raise a tourism issue for discussion by the Board, please email tourism@surfcoast.vic.gov.au. Nb. all agenda items must be received by the first Friday of each month)
