Council postpones new waste system
Published on 23 April 2020
The introduction of Surf Coast Shire Council’s planned new four-bin kerbside collection system, which includes a full food organics and garden organics (FOGO) service and glass-only bin service, has been postponed to February/March 2021.
“In March, our community started to feel the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and we know households are already making a lot of adjustments to adapt to this situation,” said Anne Howard, Council’s General Manager Governance and Infrastructure. “We didn’t want to add another layer of change to their new ways of working and living.”
The new waste service was due to start from 6 July 2020 and Council continues to work with its contractors to keep the project moving ahead.
“We remain committed to introducing the four-bin system, but feel it’s not essential to make the change at this challenging time,” said Ms Howard. “We will circulate more information about the new waste system in coming months, when hopefully things have settled down for our community.”
