Torquay has seen a lot of growth in recent years, and with the increase in people we are seeing the need to increase road safety and traffic flow for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

The works in the map below are in response to the Torquay north traffic study, crash data analysis and community feedback, and have been funded by a combination of funds from the Australian Government, the TAC and Council.

With so many road upgrade projects happening across Torquay, we want to be transparent to let you know what is planned. Some of these projects are underway and some projects are still in the planning stage with specific details and timing are yet to be confirmed. We will update this page as soon as we know information.

• Coombes Road between Surf Coast Highway and Messmate Road - Stage 1 widening of the road and surface repair.
• Coombes Road and Messmate Road intersection - Stage 2 Roundabout.
• Coombes Road between Messmate Road and Ghazepore Road - Stage 3 widening of the road and surface repair.
• Surf Coast Highway and Grossmans Road: intersection upgrade (developer works).
• Surf Coast Highway and Bristol Road intersection - traffic light installation and intersection upgrade.
• Highlander Street - safety upgrades including speed humps.
• Ironbark Drive - resurface, removal and reshape of drains, installation of new stormwater pits.
• Bellbrae Primary School - Road safety improvements.
• Rural Unsealed Roads - Intersection sealing works:
  • Elkington Road and Gundrys Road intersection
  • Point Impossible Road and Blackgate Road intersection
  • Dickens Road and Ghazepore Road intersection
  • Pettavel Road and Mt Duneed Road intersection
• Blackspot (Australian Government) funded works:
  • Ghazepore Road between Blackgate Road and Coombes Road
  • Torquay education precinct, Grossmans Road - pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements
  • Beach Road between Surf Coast Highway and Kooringa Place - new pedestrian crossing and updated line marking
