Cycling's elite hit our shores

Surf Coast businesses are preparing for the return of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (CEGORR). It will be bigger than ever in 2019 as the world’s cycling elite hitting our shores on Australia Day weekend. 


  • Deakin University Elite Women’s Race – Saturday 26th January
  • UCI World Tour Elite Men’s Race – Sunday 27th January

The elite women are expected to come through Torquay between 1pm and 2.30pm on Saturday and the elite men are expected to come through Torquay between 12pm and 1.30pm on the Sunday.

Victoria Police will facilitate a rolling road closure for these races and the delays will be short, no more than 15-20 minutes.

Surf Coast Cheer Sites

More than 30 businesses are already registered as Surf Coast Cheer Sites. A Cheer Site is a business on the race route that provides a great view of the race and embraces the cycling atmosphere. Cheer Sites are promoted on the main event website and provided with bells for customers to 'ring' the cyclists on their way past. For Cheer Site list head to

Elite Women's Welcome Wave

23rd January 2019, 5.30pm at Torquay Surf Life Saving Club. FREE public event.
