In 2019, we've helped the Surf Coast Arts Trail go digital with online mapping by Alpaca.

Now in its 8th year, the 2019 Surf Coast Arts Trail showcases more than 160 artists in 54 venues across the Shire. That's why we decided boost promotion of these businesses using Alpaca Maps to create a dedicated online Alpaca map of the trail, from Winchelsea to Moggs Creek, Wurdibolluc to Jan Juc.

When Council Officers spoke to the Arts Trail organising committee earlier this year, the idea was met with a resounding yes.

The map itself allows people to better plan their Arts Trail visit by grouping artists into four geographic areas: Winchelsea & Hinterland, Torquay & Jan Juc, Bellbrae & Anglesea and Aireys, Fairhaven & Lorne.

Alpaca Maps is a subscription based online mapping tool that allows subscribers to create customised 'google-style' maps.

Council has a subscription and has found many great uses already. Primarily, it was used in a Surf Coast Walk website upgrade last year. The new mapping promotes the entire coastal walk from Pt Impossible to Fairhaven and the twelve individual sections of the Walk.

An Alpaca map improved promotion of over 50 businesses involved in the Rip Curl Pro Live Sites in April this year. It has also been used for:

The functionality and format of the maps have been very well received. More Alpaca mapping is currently in development.
