Entry Details and Eligibility

  • Artists must be a resident or ratepayer of the Surf Coast Shire.
  • Artists who have been successful are NOT ELIGIBLE for two years to win but may enter the exhibition.
  • The winning entries will each receive a prize of $300, with limited copyright requirements.
  • All winning entries will remain the property of the “artist” with limited copyright to the Surf Coast Shire (see copyright section).

The Selection Panel will take into consideration:

  • Diversity
  • Innovation
  • A cross section of art styles/media used
  • Representation of the Surf Coast Shire


The Surf Coast Shire Calendar competition encourages people of All Abilities to enter artwork.


Twelve artworks will be selected through a competition covering 3 (three) categories:

Open - all media will be accepted (including 2D, 3D, painting, ceramics, textile etc.)

Installed Art Work (art which has been installed in Public/Private Outdoor spaces).  If work is owned by a party other than the artist, BOTH parties must sign the entry form. Photographic/slide images will be accepted for this section only and uploaded on this form as a "jpg". Site visits may occur.

Youth - up to 25 years. Young people are encouraged by the organisers to submit pieces highlighting their work, as selections will also be made from this special category.


The Surf Coast Shire Council will judge all entries at the start of the exhibition period.  Twelve works of art will be selected and the images of these winning artworks will be used in next year's Surf Coast Shire Community Calendar.

The decision of the judging panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The winners will be contacted by telephone/email and the decision will be announced in the press and on Council website at

A “People’s Choice” category allows an additional artwork to be selected. The artwork will be voted by the community as the most popular from the remaining unselected works and will be featured on the cover of the calendar.  The “People’s Choice” voting will take place during the exhibition period and will be determined at the close of the exhibition. 

All winning entries including “People’s Choice” will be awarded $300

Artist Requirements

  • The ACTUAL WORK is to be physically entered *
  • Artists can enter only ONE piece.
  • The work must be ready to hang—work may not be accepted if it is not able to be easily displayed.
  • Artists must be able to deliver their entry details and the artwork to the venue (see below) on

    29 August between 3pm and 6:30pm.
    (A proxy can deliver and collect)

  • Artists will be required to clearly mark each entry with the name, address and contact no. of the entrant.
  • Artists will be required to exhibit their work. (not applicable to Installed Art Work – see categories).

Promotion and Publicity

Promotion of the project shall be the responsibility of Surf Coast Shire Council and may involve the co-operation of the artists in photographic opportunities etc.


The winning artists agree to permit Surf Coast Shire Council to publish reproductions of the work for any non-commercial purpose, including Council cards, brochures, tourist information, promotional posters, catalogues and documentary film for a period of two years from selection.

Production of the Work

The artist will ensure that the work shall be original and produced with all due professional artistic skill, quality and craftsmanship.


The Exhibition period will be from Friday 31 August to Sunday 16 September.

Anglesea (Cnr Great Ocean Road and Noble Street)

Reproduction of the Winning Works

Council will engage a professional photographer to photograph the winning works for the calendar.

The exception to this is if the winning work is a photograph - the artist will be requested to provide a jpg, and if the work is selected is an Installed Art Work - the artist will provide a jpg of the work.
