Final Open Space Strategy 2015 -2025

On 28 January 2016, at their meeting, Council adopted their Open Space Strategy 2015-25.  Council received a total of 8 submissions - all providing positive and constructive feedback - during the recent public exhibition period.

This strategy will guide open space planning, provision and management across Surf Coast Shire during the next 10 years and support greater collaboration with other land managers.

The Open Space Strategy 2016-25 adopted on 28 January 2016 incorporates eight guiding principles and a prioritised action plan to deliver a diverse range of sustainable public open spaces to meet community expectations.

Its recommendations include developing new open space usage policies, changing management and operational process, and seeking more partnership opportunities with other land managers. Funding, master planning, community and commercial use, and key partnerships represent fundamental issues to be addressed over the life of the strategy.

We would like to acknowledge the funding contribution to the project from Sport and Recreation Victoria as part of the 2014/2015 Community Facility Funding Program.

We would also like to thank all those who have participated in the process and provided feedback since the project's commencement in October 2014.

We look forward to the next phase of commencing the implementation of the Action Items from the Strategy and continuing to deliver open space for our community which reflects the Shire's vision for its open space:

..."to continue to deliver high quality, connected and sustainable open spaces that will provide the community with environmental, social, health and economic benefits. This will further enhance the Surf Coast's position as a destination renowned for its diversity of outdoor recreation experiences."
