A swell new playground launched

6 July 2017

Youngsters will be able to slide, rock and spring around an upgraded playground at Bob Pettitt Reserve in Jan Juc.

The playground has been replaced with new equipment, including a toddler play unit with slide, whale rocker, toy storage box, and sand pit with bench seating and planted garden beds. A rubber soft fall surface and a shade sail have also been installed.

Surf Coast Shire Council Mayor Brian McKiterick was pleased to see the playground receive the makeover.

“It’s important that recreational spaces are available for families,” he said.

“Playgrounds like this help foster active communities and most importantly, they’re lots of fun for youngsters.”

“Fun” was the word that Finlay, 3, used to describe the new playground.

"I like the talkie tubes,” he said of the new equipment.

A launch party for the new playground was held Thursday 6 July, organised by Jan Juc Playgroup.

The playgroup is reaching out to local families who might be interested in joining their community group.

"We are delighted that Surf Coast Shire Council has provided us with such a great new playground,” playgroup membership officer Sarah Minter said.

“This will enable Jan Juc Playgroup to provide the perfect environment both indoors and outdoors for our playgroup families. We welcome new families to join us, so if you'd like more information please email janjucpg@gmail.com."

The Bob Pettitt Reserve playground upgrade is part of Council’s Playground Equipment Renewal Program.
