Anglesea River opening

11 April 2017

Surf Coast Shire Council has opened the mouth of the Anglesea River today to prevent localised flooding in the area.

The decision was made in consultation with the Corangamite CMA, taking into consideration relative economic, social and environmental impacts.

The opening follows last week’s announcement that the Anglesea River is safe again for water-based activities, with the water quality returning to near-normal levels. The river recovered naturally from an acid event. Council and Corangamite CMA worked together to manage the acid event over summer, monitoring the water quality during the recovery period.
