2018 Surf Coast Shire Calendar: Mark the date to cast your vote

8 September 2017

People are invited to view the 12 winning works in the Surf Coast Shire Calendar, and submit a vote for the lucky 13th piece to land the cover.

The 2018 Surf Coast Shire Calendar Art Competition attracted more than 60 entries from local artists, with all pieces on display at Surf Coast Art Space in Anglesea until Sunday 24 September.

While 12 artworks have been chosen to appear in the popular publication, a People’s Choice vote on the remaining pieces will determine the cover.

Mayor Brian McKiterick encouraged people to visit the Art Space to view the exhibition of entries, and to pick a favourite. The top piece as judged by the community will feature on the cover of the calendar.

“Judges had a tough time selecting the successful 12 works, now we’re asking the community to let us know which of the remaining pieces deserves to be included,” he said.

Cr McKiterick said the depth of entries showcased the diverse talent of Surf Coast artists.

“Genres included oils and acrylics, printing, photography, glass sculpture, ceramics and jewellery,” he said.

“It means the exhibition at Surf Coast Art Space has an incredible variety of work, including some items that are for sale. It’s a great opportunity to discover so much of our local artistic talent, all in one venue on the Great Ocean Road.”

The 13 winning artists will receive a cash prize and acknowledgment in the calendar. Their craft will also be showcased in more than 7,000 Surf Coast homes.

To be officially opened Wednesday 13 September, the Surf Coast Shire Calendar Art Exhibition is at Surf Coast Art Space – Shop 2, 103 Great Ocean Road, Anglesea (corner of Noble Street). Open daily from 11am to 5pm until Sunday 24 September.
