Building & Planning

The Planning and Building areas of Council relate to the management of land use and development and the construction of buildings and works on land.

In land use planning there are two main elements being Strategic Planning and Statutory Planning.

Strategic Planning prepares and manages Council's strategic land use plans and visions and implement these through the Surf Coast Planning Scheme.

Statutory Planning is responsible for the assessment of land use and development through the planning permit process. Statutory Planning  is also responsible for the enforcement of the Planning Scheme and other consents such as planning certificates, demolition consents and liquor and licensing consents.

The Building Unit at Surf Coast are responsible for a regulatory role in terms of assessment of variations to Building Regulations, investigating illegal works and providing advice on building permit needs.
