Tips on managing your kerbside collection
Eight ways to get it right on bin night
- Place bins on the kerbside no more than 24 hours before the scheduled collection day, and bring them back in within 48 hours after collection. Under Council’s Local Law, penalties apply.
- Ensure all bin lids close properly. Overfull bins attract wildlife such as cockatoos that scavenge and create litter. Residents are responsible for picking up litter created from overfull bins.
- Bags of household waste sitting next to bins will not be picked up. If it doesn’t fit in the bin, wait until the next collection or take it to your closest transfer station. Find your local transfer station
- Fees will apply for some waste brought to the transfer station, but up to 0.5m3 (about a car boot load) of sorted recycling and glass bottles and jars are accepted free of charge. Find your local transfer station
- Never put batteries, e-waste, liquids, hot ashes or chemicals in any kerbside bins. Check Recycling other waste for other recycling and disposal options.
- Council will repair or replace lost, damaged or stolen bins free of charge. Submit your request online or call Council offices on 5261 0600.|
- Store your bins out of direct sunlight to help minimise smell in warmer weather. Find other tips for managing bins
- ALL food and garden waste from your household goes in your FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) bin.
