Bin audits

We audit the four bins each year to see where we need to improve.

Less contamination

This year’s audits showed less contamination (wrong items in the bin) in the FOGO, glass and recycling streams, which is great!

Landfill contamination

But HALF of what’s in our red-lid landfill bins should have gone into the FOGO, glass or recycling bins instead.

Keep food out of the landfill bin

Food makes up a whopping 37% of the landfill bin and green waste like lawn clippings, branches and prunings adds another 4%.

Lost resources

These are considered lost resources that could have been made into something new through recycling or used to make compost to grow our foods.

Anglesea landfill

Also, Anglesea landfill is almost full, and when it closes we'll have to transport waste elsewhere.
