Painkalac Creek corridor restoration

In 2018 Council started replanting the eastern bank of Painkalac Creek, north of Butlers bend. This planting continued every year until 2025, extending the riparian corridor of trees, shrubs and groundcovers north to link up with remnant patches near Old Coach Road.

The plantings aim to improve the habitat values of this wildlife corridor and make the system more resilient to climate change by providing shade along the creek and more complex habitat opportunities. Recent fauna surveys have highlighted the importance of the Painkalac for threatened small mammals such as Swamp Antechinus and the Broad-toothed Rat.

In 2026 and beyond, Council will continue enhancements to the plantings and management of weeds such as Blackberries.
