For problems with pest animals on your own land you will need to hire a private pest control service. Visit the Better Health Channel for help finding a pest control service.

If you see pest animals on Council land, contact us on 5261 0600.

For information on pest animals and how to deal with them, visit PestSmart Connect or Agriculture Victoria. Pest animals include:

Rabbits (see Council’s Rabbit management policy(PDF, 121KB) and Roadside Weed and Rabbit Management Plan(PDF, 386KB))
Foxes
Indian Mynas
Wasps and bees
Mosquitoes
Other introduced (non-native) species

For any native animals causing you trouble, visit the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) website, or call DELWP on 136 186.

Some native animals that can cause trouble are:

Cockatoos pecking at your house or stealing food from café tables
Corellas tearing up the lawn
Magpies swooping cyclists
Masked Lapwings (Plovers) swooping pedestrians
Kangaroos on rural properties
Other native animals being a nuisance

Youth Spaces temporary closures

The Youth Lounge and Youth Pod are temporarily suspended from Tuesday 24th March 2020, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Surf Coast Youth is running online sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3pm. The duration of closures is currently unknown, however we are doing what we can to stay connected to young people in the community.

Surf Coast Shire has been temporarily suspended this service at all Surf Coast Shire sites from Wednesday 25th March 2020, due to COVID-19 restrictions. The duration of closures is currently unknown, but we will continue to monitor the situation and provide families with up-to-date information.

Changes to immunisations during COVID-19

Council’s Environmental Health Unit continues to provide free childhood immunisation sessions for all vaccines listed on the National Immunisation Schedule.

However, due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, there are changes to the dates and times of the sessions, to implement physical distancing and hygiene measures.

Changes to transfer station opening times

From Saturday 28 March, Council is temporarily reducing days of operation at Winchelsea and Lorne transfer stations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hours of opening now are:
- Winchelsea 2pm to 4pm Thursdays and 9.30am to 12.30pm on Sundays.
- Lorne 9am to noon on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 2pm to 5pm on Sundays.
Hours at Anglesea Landfill and Transfer Station will remain unchanged.
