Council services on Catastrophic and Extreme fire danger days
There will be changes to Council's services and facilities on Tuesday 17 February 2026, which has been declared an 'Extreme' fire danger day.
On days rated by the Country Fire Authority (CFA) as having ‘Extreme’ or ‘Catastrophic’ fire danger, our priority is to protect the safety of employees and the community.
Council employees and contractors will not work or travel in fire risk zones at the highest risk times.
Services and facilities in high bushfire risk areas (such as Lorne, Aireys Inlet, Anglesea and parts of Jan Juc) and high grassfire risk areas (such as the outer areas of Winchelsea and surrounds), will be impacted on Extreme fire risk days.
Changes for Tuesday 17 February are as follows:
Waste and kerbside bins
- Anglesea Landfill, Transfer Station and Re-sale Shed, Lorne Transfer Station and Winchelsea Transfer Station will be closed.
- Scheduled kerbside bin collections in Fairhaven and Aireys Inlet will start earlier and be completed before 10am. Residents in these areas are advised to put their bins out on Monday night.
- Public litter bin and toilet servicing in high fire risk areas will take place before 10am and during the evening if conditions ease.
Kindergartens and Child and Family Health
- Lorne Kindergarten, Jan Juc Pre-School and Anglesea Kindergarten will be closed.
- Child and Family Health home visits in Anglesea have been re-scheduled to Wednesday and Thursday.
Community facilities
- Council owned or managed reserves and facilities (such as sporting grounds and community houses) in high bushfire risk areas will be closed during the highest risk times (from 10am until conditions ease).
- The mobile library’s scheduled visit to Aireys Inlet and Lorne has been cancelled.
- Anglesea Arts Space will be closed.
Other Council services
- Lorne and Anglesea Visitor Information Centres will be closed. A remote service is available from Torquay Visitor Information Centre.
- Ranger services patrols, building and planning compliance visits, and road and infrastructure inspections will all be re-scheduled to avoid high fire risk areas at the highest risk times.
