Fischer Street road safety works

Update November 2025

Works are underway on road safety improvements along Fischer Street, aimed at increasing safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Stage one works - underway now

  • Darian Road roundabout - raised priority crossings (for pedestrians and cyclists) on all four sides. 
  • Parkside Crescent to Highlander Street - construction of an off-road bike lane on the south bound side, and marking of a 1.5m on-road cycle lane on the north-bound side.
  • Beach Road - raised pedestrian crossing on eastern side of roundabout.

The following road closures are now in place to enable Stage One construction:

  • Fischer Street is closed from Aquilla Avenue to Parkside Crescent and from Grandview Road to Cowrie Street for south bound traffic.
  • Darian Road is closed from Varydale Avenue to Follet Street.
  • Beach Road is closed from Fischer Street to Felix Crescent. This road closure will open in early December.

These closures will remain in place until completion of work, expected prior to Christmas. 

Detours are in place and local residents will continue to have access to their homes.

Stage two

  • Merrijig Drive roundabout – raised priority crossings on the east and west (Merrijig Drive) approaches to the roundabout.
  • Centreside Drive roundabout – raised priority crossings on all four sides.
  • Merrijig Drive to Centreside Drive – construction of off-road cycle lanes on both sides of the road.

A timeframe for stage two works is still to be confirmed.
