Aquatic centre build progressing
Work on Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre in north Torquay is continuing ahead of schedule, with precast walls now being installed.
Contractors Kane Constructions have poured concrete bases for the 25-metre lap pool and warm water pool, as well as the building’s ground floor slab.
Pouring of concrete for pool concourse beams is complete and work on installation of pool in-ground services is underway.

Main construction of the centre, to be co-located with Wurdi Baierr Stadium, is expected to be complete late in 2026.
Stage one construction includes:
- 25-metre indoor pool
- warm water indoor pool for hydrotherapy
- exercise and leisure
- gym and program spaces
- allied health suites and café.
Stage two work (in the planning phase) will include:
- dedicated indoor learn to swim pool
- indoor splash park
- spa, sauna and steam room
- extra change rooms.
The cost for the centre’s stage one works is $46.34 million. Council is grateful to receive $20 million from the Australian Government and $16.68 million from the Victorian Government. Stage two works will be fully funded by the Victorian Government.
The project is providing a boost for the local economy, with 79 per cent of the construction spend being invested in the G21 region and 67 per cent of the workers on Kane’s site living within the G21 region.
People are still able to access Wurdi Baierr Stadium and Banyul Warri Fields sport and recreation facilities during the construction works.
