Positive Ageing Month in Surf Coast Shire will inject plenty of active into activities, with opportunities for participation, connection and fun including dancing, exercise classes, strength training and ocean wading.

Over-55s can also turn hands to pottery or weaving, get on the tools in women’s or men’s community sheds, explore some history or kick back with live blues music as part of the month’s special offerings.

Surf Coast Shire Council celebrates Positive Ageing Month every October, in support of the Victorian Seniors Festival.

This year’s festival theme is Connect Create Celebrate, and Council is proud to be supporting more than 30 events and activities.

“Our annual celebration of people aged 55 and older just keeps getting bigger and better with the diverse and engaging range of activities on offer across the shire,” Council Positive Ageing Advisory Committee councillor representative Cr Tony Phelps said.

“We love to see people being active, involved and making connections at any time but this month serves up some really special opportunities for trying something new or revitalising an interest, skill or hobby.

“It’s about connecting with others, having fun and discovering what some of our many wonderful community organisations can offer year-round.

“Check out the busy Positive Ageing Month calendar now and start planning your adventure.”

People can view the full calendar, and find place-based listings of events via surfcoast.vic.gov.au/PositiveAgeingMonth or collect printed calendars from local community houses or Council’s civic office at 1 Merrijig Drive, Torquay
