Local families looking to provide their children with two years of kindergarten can apply now for a spot at Helen M Kininmonth Kindergarten in Winchelsea in 2025.

The Surf Coast Shire Council-run kindergarten, in Hesse Street, has three-year-old and four-year-old programs.

While there has been a steady flow of applications for next year’s four-year-old program, Council’s Early Years team is eager to welcome more applications for the three-year-old program.

Councillor Heather Wellington highlighted the benefits of two years of kinder.

“The early years of education are important for a child’s development and we know that two years of quality kindergarten can help prepare a child for their start to school life,” Cr Wellington said.

“Helen M Kininmonth Kindergarten has a huge outdoor area and a recently refurbished indoor space, offering beautiful environments for children to take part in play-based learning.”

Council’s kinder programs are free, thanks to the Victorian Government.

Families are encouraged to apply before Sunday 16 June 2024, when first round applications close. The application form will remain open for second and third round offers.

Other Council kindergartens are Anglesea Kindergarten, Jan Juc Pre-School, Kurrambee Myaring Kindergarten in Torquay, Torquay Kindergarten on Grossmans Road, and Lorne Kindergarten.
