Jo Klemke
I have lived near the Surf Coast for many years and am deeply connected to the local community through both my professional and family life. As a person with neurodivergent relatives, my advocacy journey has been shaped by lived experience navigating education systems, disability supports, and community inclusion. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of the practical barriers families face and the importance of systems that respond with flexibility, dignity, and respect.
I work in the community sector within local community houses, where inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We offer programs that support families, children, volunteers, and community members of all abilities. I am committed to embedding inclusive practices into everyday operations, from accessible enrollment processes and strong child-safe practices, to designing programs that actively welcome neurodivergent participants, carers, and people with disability.
Advocacy is central to my work. I regularly support families to navigate services, connect with appropriate supports, and feel confident and empowered in their interactions with schools and community systems. I am particularly passionate about neuro-affirming practice, early intervention, carer wellbeing, and ensuring community spaces are not only physically accessible, but socially and emotionally safe.
I joined the All Abilities Advisory Committee to bring both professional expertise and lived experience to the table, and to advocate for practical, community-led solutions that strengthen inclusion across the Surf Coast. I believe meaningful participation, universal design, and strong local partnerships are key to building a community where everyone belongs.
