Domestic Animal Management Plan

Our Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) 2017-21 helps guide how people, dogs and cats in the Surf Coast Shire can live together in safety and harmony.

Community members contributed to the development of the plan via a survey, a workshop during public exhibition of the draft plan.

Important issues include:

  • dog behaviour
  • threats to wildlife and stock
  • dog litter
  • responsible pet ownership
  • enforcement
  • population growth of permanent domestic animals in the shire
  • holiday home owners travelling with pets
  • proximity of Geelong’s Armstrong Creek growth area
