An eventful feedback opportunity

Local event organisers, patrons and the community are invited to provide feedback to help Council strengthen the Surf Coast Shire’s status as a top events destination.

Surf Coast Shire Council has released an updated draft Events Policy for comment, which outlines its commitment to supporting, partnering and delivering events across the shire.

The updated policy features a greater focus on events being accessible and inclusive, and encourages environmentally responsible practices. It has also introduced a toolkit for event organisers.

Councillor Leon Walker said the Surf Coast Events calendar played an important role in supporting local communities.

“Our stunning environment and the unique character of our towns make the Surf Coast and hinterland the perfect spot for various events: from major international sporting contests such as the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, to popular community markets, art exhibitions and concerts,” he said.

“Events attract visitors who spend and stay locally as they enjoy everything our region has to offer – all while connecting with other people.

“This draft policy sets out how we will make it easier for event organisers to continue delivering exceptional and safe events that maximise social, economic, cultural, and environmental benefits.

“We also want to ensure that organisers consider the impacts on the host community.”
