Get prepared

Taking proactive steps before an emergency is one of the most effective ways to stay safe on the Surf Coast.

We know preparation reduces harm to people, property and the community. Preparation also builds confidence and resilience, helping us to better recover from emergencies.

The high-risk period for Surf Coast Shire generally runs from October to May. During this time, the region is at higher risk of fire, extreme heat and storms.

Start your preparations by downloading or updating the VicEmergency app, and ensuring you are receiving alerts relevant to your area. You should also:

  • Make sure you understand emergency warnings
  • Make a plan for yourself, your family and your pets and livestock
  • Prepare your property
