'Voices from Home' Creative Initiative Project
'Voices from Home' is Surf Coast Shire’s 2026 Creative Initiative Project, led by award-winning spoken word artist Megan J Riedl.
The community creative writing project invites people from across the Surf Coast Shire to share their stories and experiences of home.
There will be different ways to get involved, including sharing your story and taking part in creative writing workshops. These stories will inspire new spoken word works, which will be shared at a live community event later this year.

What is Voices from Home?
'Voices from Home' is a community creative writing and storytelling project exploring what home means to people across the Surf Coast Shire.
Stories, memories and ideas gathered from the community will inspire new spoken word works created by Megan J Riedl.
The project will bring these local voices together and share them through a live performance and community event later this year.
How can I get involved?
There will be different ways to take part in Voices from Home.
You will be able to:
- share a written story or reflection
- leave a story or message by voicemail
- take part in creative activities
- join an in-person creative writing workshop
- follow the project as local stories are turned into new creative works
- attend the final live performance and community event.

Meet Megan J Riedl
'Voices from Home' is led by Megan J Riedl, an award-winning spoken word artist, writer and performer.
Megan will work with stories, memories and ideas shared by people from across the Surf Coast Shire and use them to create new spoken word works.
She will also lead creative writing workshops for the community and a masterclass for local writers and performers.

- support local writers and performers to build their skills
- celebrate the people, places and connections that make the Surf Coast Shire home.
