Holiday waste collection changes

There will be temporary changes to kerbside bin collections over the Christmas period, along with additional waste and recycling collections from Boxing Day to early January.

From Thursday 25 December to Saturday 27 December only:

• Bins normally collected on Thursday will be collected on Friday.
• Bins normally collected on Friday will be collected on Saturday.

Regular collections will resume on Monday 29 December 2025.

From Boxing Day to early January, Council will run extra waste and recycling collections across the shire. Residents can check their additional pick up dates on SCRRApp (Surf Coast Rubbish and Recycling App) or enter their address at surfcoast.vic.gov.au/collections to download their kerbside calendar.

Councillor Paul Barker said the seasonal adjustments aimed to help deal with higher volumes of waste at this time of year.

“We know that many people accumulate extra rubbish across the Christmas-New Year period, so these extra collections will help households manage this,” Cr Barker said.

Extreme weather (including extreme or catastrophic fire danger rating days) may affect kerbside collections or transfer station opening hours. Any changes will be communicated on SCRRApp and Council’s social media channels as soon as they are known.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to help keep collections running smoothly by following these simple guidelines:

• Keep 50cm between each kerbside bin and leave bins at least one metre away from fences and walls to allow trucks to easily pick them up.

• Avoid overfilling. If you can’t move your bin, our trucks won’t be able to lift it, meaning it won’t be emptied.

Transfer stations will also operate with extended hours through January:

• Anglesea Transfer Station will open to commercial waste contractors on Saturdays from 20 December 2025 to 24 January 2026.
• Anglesea Transfer Station will remain open to the public seven days a week, except Christmas Day.
• Lorne Transfer Station will close at 2pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 26 December 2025 to 26 January 2026.
