Expression of Interest (EOI) for Presenters & Topic Specialists

Better Business Skills is an ongoing program of free workshops and events designed specifically for Surf Coast-based business owners and their staff.

Presented by the Surf Coast Shire Council Business Team, the program provides opportunities to build capacity and provides attendees with practical learning outcomes for businesses at all stages .

Our presenters and topic specialists are experts in their field, offering real-world knowledge gained through years of working with businesses just like yours. We offer payment to our presenters and work collaboratively to shape sessions that deliver real learning outcomes — ensuring the focus stays on value for attendees, not promotion of the presenter.

Each session is facilitated by the business team and include time for networking as well as light catering.

Who are we looking for?

Event Image 01 We’re inviting expressions of interest from industry experts, experienced presenters, and facilitators who would like to contribute to the Better Business Skills program.

We're looking  for people who can offer engaging and actionable workshops designed for businesses at various stages of development:

  • START (for new businesses and sole traders) 
  • THRIVE (for growing businesses building stability and strategy) 
  • FLOURISH (for established businesses ready to innovate or expand)

Workshops should focus on topics relevant to Surf Coast businesses and align with the program’s purpose of delivering practical skills and professional development.

Based on recent feedback, our key themes for 2025 include:

  • Marketing 
  • Business planning and optimisation 
  • Access and inclusion 
  • Sustainable business practices 
  • Connection and Healthy workplaces

Other topics are welcome. If you have expertise in a relevant area and a passion for helping businesses thrive, we’d love to hear from you.

Where and when do we hold workshops?

Event Image 02 Better Business Skills workshops are generally delivered in person across the Surf Coast. The session can also include online on platforms such as Zoom or in hybrid formats.

Timing may vary to suit business needs – including daytime or after-hours sessions. A workshop would usually be 1.5 to 2 hours and include a 10 minute break in the middle. We aim to provide 2-3 workshop sessions per month on various topics at different locations and at various times throughout the year.

Proposals should be around 500 words and demonstrate a strong focus on delivering practical skills and real learning outcomes

We accept proposals that align with feedback received from our business community via our Business insights survey and Better Business Skills survey

Please note: proposals that focus primarily on promoting a product or service will not be considered.
