Statement from Surf Coast Shire Council CEO Robyn Seymour:

Rebecca Bourke has this afternoon submitted her resignation as a councillor. This resignation will take effect from today.

On behalf of Surf Coast Shire Council, I sincerely thank Mrs Bourke for her service.

During her time on Council, Mrs Bourke has shown a genuine passion for representing her local community. We wish her and her family all the best.

We have notified the Local Government Minister and the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) of Mrs Bourke’s resignation.

The VEC will run a countback process from the 2024 local government election to determine a new councillor for the Torquay Ward.

We will keep the community advised of the timing and outcome of this process.

The following comments can be attributed to Mayor Mike Bodsworth:

On behalf of the Council, I thank Rebecca for her work as a councillor.

Her dedication to improved health and wellbeing outcomes for young people has particularly shone through during her time on Council.

Sincere best wishes to Rebecca for the future.
