Start planning your Positive Ageing Month adventures

Older adults are in for laughs and learning, tunes and trivia, workouts, workshops and a whole lot more as Positive Ageing Month rolls out across Surf Coast Shire during October.
Surf Coast Shire Council is partnering with community organisations to present more than 35 events during the month, encouraging over-55s to get involved and enjoy.
Highlights will include a live show by 95-year-old comedy sensation Liz Hicklin, a Surf Coast Big Band jazz performance, a concert of classic hits from the 1960s and ‘70s and an International Probus 50th anniversary celebration – all alongside an inviting selection of open days, come and try days, and information, dance and exercise sessions.
“We certainly celebrate Positive Ageing Month with purpose and passion in Surf Coast Shire,” Deputy Mayor Tony Phelps said.
“This is shaping up as our biggest year yet, with the calendar packed with opportunities for people to get involved, maybe ignite new interests, gain new skills or make new connections.
“The month truly showcases the breadth of interests and activities that our wonderful community organisations offer, and we recognise the work of Council’s Positive Ageing Advisory Committee in helping bring the busy and diverse program of activities together.
“For people who have been wondering what all the fuss is about with pickleball, or waiting for an invitation to check out their local women’s shed, or hoping to skill up on online banking, or would love to have a crack at mosaic-making – Positive Ageing Month has it all for everyone.
“We encourage people to check out the calendar and start planning their adventures.”
The Positive Ageing Month calendar, including listing of place-based events, is available via surfcoast.vic.gov.au/PositiveAgeingMonth and print versions are available at community houses and Council’s civic office at 1 Merrijig Drive, Torquay.
Activities will link with related events during October including International Probus Day, Mental Health Week, Ageism Awareness Day, Get Online Week and National Carers Week.
Council has this year received support from the Victorian Government Seniors Festival Country Concert Series for a Stiletto Groove concert in Winchelsea, as well as additional funding for the 2026 Seniors Festival Aged Care Tour.
