The Lighthouse Classic is a beautiful 10km coastal walk held throughout January to support the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute, raising vital funds for cancer research that changes lives. Created by Janet Jones OAM, a much-loved community member who faced cancer three times with immense courage, the Lighthouse Classic began as a way to bring people together for hope and purpose.

Following Janet losing her battle with cancer in 2021, the event continues in her honour to help others touched by cancer.

Group walk day: Sunday 18 January 2026 at 9am

We invite you to join us for our official group walk, starting at the iconic Aireys Inlet Lighthouse. From there, walkers will follow the Surf Coast Walk to Spouts Creek via the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club, before r eturning to finish back at the lighthouse. After the walk, participants are welcome to stay and enjoy a coffee at the Aireys Inlet Lighthouse Tea Rooms.

The full route is a 10km return walk.

For those looking for a shorter option, walkers can choose to turn around at the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club, completing a walk of approximately 4km return. This makes the event accessible for families, casual walkers and anyone who prefers a gentler distance.

Walk your way throughout January: While our group walk takes place on 18 January, the Lighthouse Classic runs for the entire month of January. You can choose to complete your walk anywhere in Australia, at any time during the month. Walk your own local track, follow the same Surf Coast route on a different day, or make it a personal New Year challenge.

Whether you join us on the day, walk solo, or gather your own group, every step supports cancer research and honours Janet’s legacy of hope, resilience and community.
