As part of Surf Coast Shire Council’s Textile Recycling Trial, we’re excited to offer the community a chance to see Australian-first textile recycling in action.

Textile waste is one of the world’s fastest-growing environmental problems, and Deakin University’s Future Fibres Facility has recently launched Australia’s first fully circular textile processing capability. We are one of the first to test this new capability, where t-shirts collected from our recycling trial will be turned into new textiles.

Learn how clothes are made, following the process from raw material to spun yarn. See machinery, meet the researchers and learn how this work is helping find solutions to the growing textile waste problem.
