Detox your Home returns to Torquay
Published on 17 September 2025
The highly popular Detox your Home chemical drop-off is coming back to Torquay in October, giving residents the chance to safely dispose of unwanted toxic household chemicals.
Chemicals should never be poured down your drain or put in kerbside bins where they can harm people, pets and the environment. This drop-off event provides a safe and simple way for householders to clear out their sheds, cupboards and garages, and drop off toxic chemicals at no cost.
“This program is so popular and it’s fantastic to see it returning to Torquay for another collection,” said Cr Rebecca Bourke.
“Events like this show the community’s commitment to protecting our environment and doing the right thing with their hazardous waste.”
Cr Bourke encouraged residents to book quickly to secure their spot.
“These events book out quickly, which highlights how important they are for our community. If you have been holding onto unwanted chemicals, now is the time to act.”
This drop-off event is for household chemicals only.
The list of toxic chemicals that will be accepted has changed this year, so check what items are accepted before you register. Paint is not accepted at any Detox your Home event.

This will be the only Detox your Home event in our region in 2025 and registrations are essential. This event is hosted by Sustainability Victoria and supported by Surf Coast Shire Council.
“By removing these chemicals from homes and disposing of them responsibly, we are reducing risks to households and ensuring safer outcomes for the community,” said Cr Bourke.
