All Council waste disposal sites are closed on Christmas Day, but open on other public holidays that fall within their normal operating hours.


Closures during fire risk days

On Extreme Fire Danger Rating days, operations at Winchelsea Transfer Station may be impacted. On these days, call our customer service team on 5261 0600 before you leave home to check that the site is open.
On Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating days, the Winchelsea Transfer Station will be CLOSED.


What's accepted at Winchelsea Transfer Station?

Guide to estimating amounts:

  • Car boot load = approx. 0.25m3
  • Small trailer (level) = approx. 0.5m3
  • Large trailer (level), or small heaped trailer = 1m3

Council’s transfer stations and landfill accept payment by EFTPOS or a current waste voucher only. Cash is not accepted.

Mulch available from Winchelsea Transfer Station is made from green waste received at the site. Tree prunings, branches, weeds and grass clippings undergo a pasteurisation process to reduce weed risks and make it safe for use in gardens.

Please note:

  • Mulch may contain contamination. Staff remove obvious contaminants where possible, however some contamination may remain and affect mulch quality.
  • Check the mulch before loading onto your trailer to ensure it meets your needs.
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before closing time to allow staff time to assist with loading your trailer.

FREE compostable bags for collecting food

Free rolls of AS 4736-certified compostable bags (one per household) are available at Winchelsea Transfer Station.

bagMUSTER recycling drop-off

Eligible polypropylene (PP) bags can be dropped for free at Winchelsea Transfer Station.  Bags must be made from woven polypropylene (PP), identifiable by their strong, woven texture.

Accepted bags include those used for:

  • fertiliser
  • grain (excluding silo and silage bags)
  • stock feed
  • pet food

Fees apply for bags that do not meet bagMUSTER eligibility.

drumMUSTER recycling drop-off

Empty agricultural and veterinary (AgVet) chemical containers that display the eligible drumMUSTER logo can be dropped off for free at Winchelsea Transfer Station.

Before taking your containers to the drop-off site, you must:

  • ensure the container is completely empty
  • remove lids and dispose of them*
  • triple rinse containers to remove any chemical residue
  • allow the containers to dry completely.

*Lids cannot be recycled via the drumMUSTER program, so put them in your landfill bin.
