Farmers and agricultural businesses can drop off eligible single-use plastic bags at Winchelsea Transfer Station for recycling through the bagMUSTER program.

bagMUSTER is an industry-led initiative that helps the agricultural industry responsibly dispose of single-use polypropylene (PP) plastic bags.

What bags can be recycled?

  • Only eligible bags can be recycled through bagMUSTER. To qualify, a bag must be made from woven polypropylene (PP), which can be recognized by its strong, woven texture like the bags below.

Single-use woven polypropylene (PP) bags are used for transporting:

    • fertiliser
    • grain (excluding silo bags)
    • stock feed
    • pet food

These bags, typically range from 25kg to over 1,200kg bulk bags.

  • Bags may be labelled with a PP5 recycling symbol
  • Bags may be labelled with bagMUSTER logo

How to prepare your bags for drop off:

  1. Ensure all bags are clean and dry.
  2. Before dropping them off, make sure your bags are:
  • Clean and empty: shake out all residue so bags are free from contents and contaminants such as dirt, moisture, chemical stains, mould, or product stuck to the bag surface.
  • Remove non-PP components: remove any liners or labels that are not made from PP.
  • Roll or fold: Neatly roll of fold the bags for easier transportation and storage at the collection site.

What is bagMUSTER?

bagMUSTER is an industry-led, not-for-profit initiative operated by Agsafe. Launched in early 2025, the program provides farmers and agribusiness with a simple and environmentally responsible way to recycle their used polypropylene PP bags.

Where recycling infrastructure exists, bags are recycled into new products in Australia, supporting local industry and keeping valuable materials in use.
