By the time the 2026 football season rolls around, players and spectators will notice a fresh new look for Spring Creek Recreation Reserve in Torquay, with two exciting projects now underway.

Not only is the oval being upgraded to improve drainage and the playing surface, the change rooms are being modernised with new gender-neutral facilities making them more welcoming for everyone.

Spring Creek Oval reconstruction

The Spring Creek Oval has reached the end of its useful life and with increased use over the years, is no longer able to provide a fit for purpose surface year-round.

The reconstruction will see:

  • a new oval and sub surface,
  • upgraded drainage
  • improved oval irrigation
  • fencing, minor pavement and kerb works.

On site works are on track to be completed by December 2025 to allow three months for the turf to establish ahead of the start of the football season. The oval will be unavailable for use during this time.

The Spring Creek Oval reconstruction is part of the 2025/2026 Asset Renewal program.

Spring Creek Recreation Reserve change rooms upgrade

The Spring Creek change rooms are being upgraded with gender neutral facilities to better accommodate all football and cricket players.

Works will include:

  • Upgrading the existing home and away change room shower and bathroom facilities to make the facilities more suitable for female participants.
  • Upgrading the toilets to include accessible and unisex spaces.
  • Installing a new hot water system.

Thanks to the Australian Government for funding of $700,000 and AFL’s Australian Football Facilities Fund for $75,000, to make this project possible. Council is contributing $40,000 towards the project.
