Surf Coast Shire Council is getting to work on its new Council Plan 2025-2029, with the Year One Action Plan now endorsed.

Council will receive twice yearly reports on delivery of the first year of the action plan.

It follows the adopting of the Council Plan, incorporating the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, in September this year following extensive community consultation.

The Council Plan Action Plan describes how Surf Coast Shire Council will address the strategic directions identified, through the delivery of key initiatives.

“A great deal of community input went into developing the Council Plan so we’re confident it reflects locals’ needs and hopes for our shire,” Mayor Cr Libby Stapleton said.

“Our Council Plan isn’t a plan that just gets filed away or sits on a shelf; it’s at the forefront helping guide everything we do.  The Year One Action Plan will make sure we’re progressing as we need and on track to meet the 27 strategic objectives over the next four years,” she said.

Council Plan identifies five themes, with a series of outcomes for each:

  • Assets and Infrastructure
  • Climate and Environmental Leadership
  • Community Wellbeing
  • High Performing Council
  • Sustainable Communities

The Action Plan highlights 43 key initiatives, including:

  • Attaining Eco-Destination Accreditation to promote the shire as an environment-oriented tourism destination.
  • Develop a Service Review Policy and a program of service reviews.
  • Deliver Christmas decorations and activations project.
  • Complete the design and award construction contract ready to commence construction of the Karaaf Stormwater Diversion project.
  • Deliver a program of road and active transport projects including:
    - Speed zone reviews.
    Fischer Street safety improvements.
    - Pollocksford Road bridge renewal.
    - Spring Creek pedestrian bridge.
