Kids’ design inspirations shine at new Adventure Play Space

During project planning for Winchelsea’s Adventure Play Space, Council invited local primary school children to share ideas for ‘the ultimate playground’.

The kids went to work with their imaginations, and now some of their wishlist designs have taken shape in the new playground.

Treehouse pods, a flying fox, slope slide and rock climbing wall are among elements to have progressed from Texta-drawn concepts to built features of the space now enhancing the town’s Barwon Terrace precinct.

Community members will join Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney, Mayor Mike Bodsworth and councillors for formal opening of the Adventure Play Space at 3.30pm tomorrow, 29 August.

Council contributed $750,000 to the project and appreciates $250,000 funding from the Victorian Government through Sport and Recreation Victoria.

The Adventure Play Space has all abilities access and the flying fox provides wheelchair access and an accessible seat.

The space adjoins Winchelsea’s new pool, an existing playground and the new gathering space shelter which features community-built cob walls providing connection with the site’s former mud hut.

Community members are welcome to attend the Adventure Play Space opening, which will start with a Traditional Owner Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country.
