The main offender (37%) is food and garden waste. Placing food and garden waste into landfill produces harmful greenhouse gases (methane) and fills up landfill space more quickly.

Making sure your food and garden waste is placed in your FOGO (green lid) bin ensures these valuable materials are correctly composted and reused by Victorian farmers to produce more food.

So let’s all make sure we correctly sort our waste and reduce unnecessary materials going to landfill, which helps protect the environment and preserves valuable landfill space.

Our Anglesea Landfill is filling up and nearing full capacity. Once it closes, waste will have to be transported longer distances at higher cost to ratepayers.
