New appointments to Positive Ageing Advisory Committee
Lorne’s Joy Dwyer is eager to play her role in fostering an age friendly community as one of four new members on Council’s Positive Ageing Advisory Committee (PAAC).
“Together we will seek ideas from members of our small rural communities to enable us all to live and age positively within our wonderful environments,” Joy said.
“I feel I have the ability to listen to others, and contribute ideas and suggestions gained from within my community to take to Council for it to consider.”
The PAAC provides Council with advice and direction to help to foster a community where older people are valued, respected and actively supported to participate in their community.
Anglesea’s Harry Wendt and Torquay’s Keri Jones and Kathryn Williamson join Joy as newly-appointed committee members.
“My general purpose is to make peoples’ lives as good as they can be,” Harry said.
“Now I’ve been retired for a little bit, I can see the types of issues that might come up for people, thinking about ‘how can they go shopping?’ or ‘how can they do this?’ or ‘how can they do that?’.
“When I saw the email saying there were a couple of spots vacant (on the Positive Ageing Advisory Committee), I thought I’d put my hand up and see if I can help.”
A vacancy remains for an Aireys Inlet representative. To find out more and register your interest, visit our Positive Ageing Advisory Committee webpage.
