Winchelsea Pool’s new season will start with a splash on 29 November, with months of summer fun beckoning.

Group swimming lessons and school carnivals are already booked, community members are in line to fill lifeguard roles, and a trial cold weather threshold for opening will enable longer hours in the water on hotter days.

The season will run until Monday 9 March, opening 12pm to 6pm daily.

Cr Joel Grist: “We are looking forward to seeing Winchelsea community members enjoying having their sparkling new pool open for its first full season.

“We recognise how much they love this great community asset, and have made some adjustments in response to feedback from our survey during winter.

“These include opening for consistent hours across school terms and holidays, introducing dedicated lap swimming lanes and trialling cold weather closures. The pool will not open when the forecast temperature is below 21 degrees, and this will enable staff hours to be reallocated to extended opening on hotter days, weekends and public holidays.

“A new dedicated Winchelsea Swimming Pool Facebook page is now live will help keep people informed of opening hours.”

Council rates will continue to subsidise the pool’s operating cost to keep use affordable for the community. Council’s approved 2025-26 pool operating budget sets the total time the pool can open for the season.

VicSwim lessons are set for January, and Winchelsea, Deans Marsh and Colac schools have booked for lessons and carnivals.

Several locals have undertaken free lifeguard training offered by Council’s Youth Team.
