Updated December 2025

We are partnering with the Victorian Government Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions and Surf Coast Cricket Club to construct new training nets at Banyul Warri Fields, Torquay.

The nets will be located between the southern boundaries of Polwarth and Grenville Ovals, near Djila Tjarri Skate Park, and include four synthetic turf pitches.

The pitches will be fully enclosed and divided by mesh fencing, with a space for wicket-keeping practice, and a power source for a bowling machine.

The facility will support the growth of the Surf Coast Cricket Club programs, including junior and women’s, and be open and accessible for school and community use, enhancing Banyul Warri Fields as a multi-sport destination and supporting healthy activity and social connection.

Estimated project milestones:

  • Call for tenders, end of second week of December 2025
  • Tenders close third week of January 2026
  • Contract awarded mid-February 2026
  • Construction start early March 2026
  • Completion late April 2026.

Funding contributions

  • Victorian Government $379,500 through the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund
  • Council $100,000
  • Cricket Victoria $40,000.
