Fischer Street and Beach Road, Torquay, pedestrian improvements

Fischer Street roundabouts (8).jpg

Installation of three raised pedestrian (wombat) crossings at the intersection of Fischer Street and Beach Road, Torquay.

Works will begin on Monday 24 August and are expected to be completed by mid October.

Traffic impacts from 24 August

As shown on the map below:

  • The intersection of Fischer Street and Beach Road will be closed.
  • Local traffic only Fischer Street between Zeally Bay Road and Beach Road.
  • Local Traffic only on Beach Road between Short Street and The Esplanade.
  • Bus stops on Ficher Street between Zeally Bay Road and Central Avenue will be temporarily closed.
  • Two temporary bus stops will be located on Fischer Street between Central Avenue and Cowries Road.

Local access to properties will be maintained throughout the works.

Changed waste collection location

Residents on the western side of Fischer Street between Central Avenue and Puebla Street will need to place the bins on the eastern (opposite) side of the road for collection during the works.

Three trees will be removed during these works. Tree removal is avoided where practical in all council projects. For this project the crossings have been located based on pedestrian safety, pedestrian movement and engineering requirements. This has meant there is limited flexibility to avoid tree removal without compromising pedestrian safety and accessibility. Three replacement trees will be planted nearby to replace the removed trees.

These works continue to connect the walking and cycling pathways between central Torquay and north Torquay.

Thank you for your patience as we complete these important road safety upgrades.
