New accommodation businesses

Prescribed accommodation businesses (which include hotels and motels, hostels, student dormitories, holiday camps and rooming houses) must be registered with Council and comply with the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 and associated Regulations.

To commence the registration application process, please click on the button below. One of our Environmental Health Officers will then be in touch to organise an inspection your premises. 

Once Council is satisfied that your premises and practices comply with the relevant standards, a certificate of registration will be issued and you will be able to commence trading.

Registration is then renewed at the end of each calendar year and your premises will be subject to an annual inspection.

Established accommodation businesses

If you are a proprietor and want to make changes to your existing premises, or wish to organise a transfer of business registration to a new proprietor please contact Council's Environmental Health Unit on (03) 5261 0600 or ehadmin@surfcoast.vic.gov.au.

Note: Short term private rentals such as holiday houses on Airbnb are not required to be registered by Council under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act.
