After graduating from the University of Melbourne Cr Allen became an economics teacher and school principal working for the Victorian Education Department for thirty five years in Melbourne and rural colleges. After retiring he took on an advocacy role for rural and remote communities, chairing Country Education Project Victoria and as the executive officer of the Rural Education Forum Australia. Since returning to live in Lorne eight years ago, Cr Allen has been actively involved in leadership positions in several community organizations.
