Cr Heather Wellington trained and worked as both a medical practitioner and a lawyer and also has qualifications in medical science, management and governance. She currently runs an active consultancy practice in the health care sector nationally, focusing on service quality and governance. 

She has held a number of senior positions in large organisations including as Director of Medical Services at The Geelong Hospital, chairperson of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, chairperson of a private company that owns/operates carparks and director of Barwon Water and GMHBA. 

She currently chairs the Barwon Health Human Research Ethics Committee and is also a director of Volunteering Geelong.  She was a Councillor for the City of Greater Geelong from 2000-2004 and is now in her ninth year as a Surf Coast Shire Councillor.  Cr Wellington loves working with and empowering communities, has a keen interest in statutory and strategic planning and is working hard to improve Council governance and community engagement.
