Heather and her husband Ian have lived and farmed in Barrabool with their two (now adult) sons for more than a decade. They previously lived on a small property on the Bellarine Peninsula, where Heather was Councillor for the Coryule Ward in the City of Greater Geelong from 2000-04. She and Ian enjoy their rural lifestyle and environment, and are active members of their community.
Heather started her professional life as a medical doctor at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne before studying Health Care Management. She served as Director of Medical Services at The Geelong Hospital before completing a law degree. For fifteen years she has conducted an advisory practice in the health sector specialising in governance, planning, quality and regulation. She has held several directorships including as chair of the board of Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Heather is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is strongly committed to contributing to the good governance of the Shire. She is keen to encourage engagement between Council and residents of smaller towns and farming communities, evidence-based decisions, a fair allocation of resources, efficient service delivery, strong community advocacy and robust planning for a sustainable future.
