Merrijig and Fischer Street Roundabout - UPDATES

Thursday 18 July 2019

Our contractors will be doing some minor works at the new Merrijig roundabout tomorrow morning (Friday). Keep an eye out for temporary changed traffic conditions including detours. They expect to be finished before 10am.

Thursday 27 June 2019

The intersection will be opened to traffic tonight!!

The contractors are currently finishing off the line marking, a job which has taken them most of the day.

As soon as they are finished, all barriers and detour signs will be removed, and traffic will be able to use the intersection.

The accessible parking bay was also completed today. The contractors will be on site doing some tidy up over the next few days.

Thank you to our community for all your patience throughout construction of this roundabout!

Wednesday 26 June

The signage is now in place in preparation for the intersection to be opened! Contractors will be on site mid-morning to complete the line marking which should be completed tomorrow.

The only works left to be completed will be construction of the accessible parking bay. However, this does not impact timing to open the intersection to traffic.

Everyone has shown great patience throughout this construction period, including residents, traders and motorists. We are nearly there.

Tuesday 25 June 2019

The contractors have now completed all concrete works within the intersection. The pavement will have a final clean and tidy up tomorrow morning before contractors commence the line marking. They will also start the signage installation and works on the accessible parking bay.

The intersection will remain closed tomorrow but we plan to have it open by the end of the week once the concrete has hardened enough to handle heavy vehicles.

Monday 24 June 2019

We have a roundabout!

The contractors finished pouring the coloured concrete in-fill of the roundabout today, and have been cleaning the road surface in preparation for line marking. The intersection will need to remain closed to allow the concrete to cure sufficiently to take the weight of heavy vehicles.

Works still to be completed include concreting of the accessible parking bay, concreting behind the new kerb, line marking and the installation of new signage.

Friday 21 June 2019

The weather once more has slowed down the progress on the Merrijig roundabout works. Our contractors decided against pouring the concrete roundabout infill today as they were concerned that a heavy down pour of rain could compromise the quality of the finish.

Asphalting around the pedestrian refuges is underway.

The contractors will be working on Saturday, with the intersection to remain closed to all traffic until Tuesday afternoon. Detours will stay in place as before.

Our next update will be on Monday.

Thursday 20 June 2019

The planned pouring of the coloured concrete infill for the roundabout was postponed today due to poor weather. The contractors were able to complete the pedestrian refuges, and have made a good start on the mountable kerb.

Should the weather be kinder tomorrow, the roundabout and asphalting will be completed. If the rain is heavy tomorrow, these works will need to be deferred.

The intersection will now remain closed to traffic until Tuesday afternoon to allow all concrete works to be sufficiently cured to take the weight of heavy vehicles without causing any damage.

Be sure to put your bins out as usual. Report any missed bins to Customer Service on 5261 0600.

The two bus stops on Merrijig Drive will remain closed until the intersection is opened next week.

Wednesday 19 June 2019

Even though weather conditions have not been ideal, Council's contractors have continued to make good progress on the roundabout and associated traffic management improvement works.

Thursday will see the red concrete roundabout infill being poured, the pedestrian refuges being poured with plain concrete and some final saw cutting of the asphalt.

Tuesday 18 June 2019

The kerb for the roundabout and two pedestrian islands have been completed. Boxing of the remaining two pedestrian refuges and the mountable kerb will be completed tonight ready for kerb tomorrow.

Remaining plain concrete works will be poured tomorrow, with the coloured concrete in-fill of the roundabout is scheduled for completion on Thursday, weather permitting.

Monday 17 June 2019

Keystone Civil are well underway with significant preparation works already completed including removal of all pedestrian refuges and preparation of the centre island. The accessible bay has been marked out, with existing concrete cut ready for removal and kerb work.

Weather permitting, kerb and concrete works will commence tomorrow.
