Fischer Street and Merrijig Drive road safety works

Creating safe cycling and walking routes connecting Torquay and North Torquay.

Road safety works are planned at the following intersections:

  • Fischer Street and Zeally Bay Road roundabout (east side) – raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing.
  • Fischer Street and Beach Road roundabout (east side) – raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing.
  • Fischer Street and Darian Road roundabout (all four sides) – raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing and separated bicycle lanes.
  • Fischer Street between Parkside Crescent and Highlander Street – bicycle lane and line marking to indicate bicycle path.
  • Fischer Street and Aquilla Avenue – line marking to indicate bicycle path.
  • Fischer Street and Loch Ard Drive – raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing on Loch Ard Drive.
  • Fischer Street and Centreside Drive (all four sides) - raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing and separated bicycle lanes.
  • Fischer Street and Merrijig Drive roundabout - raised pedestrian (wombat) crossings on Merrijig Drive and separated bicycle lanes.
  • Fischer Street and Yirn Avenue - raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing on Fischer Street south of Yirn Avenue.
  • Merrijig Drive between Scott Avenue and Yallock Court – convert existing speed hump into raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing, giving pedestrians right of way to cross the road.
  • Merrijig Drive near McLean Street – convert existing speed hump into raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing, giving pedestrians right of way to cross the road. 

These works compliment previous road safety works along Fischer Street and continue to create safe cycling and walking paths between Torquay and Torquay North. 

These works are currently out for tender. When a contractor is appointed, the work schedule will be completed and we will notify all residents. 

These works are funded through the Safe Local Roads and Streets program.
